Going medieval for a bit, here’s a Scout’s Journey version of the large floor plates from RMQ. Diffuse, specular and normal maps made completely in Gimp, no baking involved. Took ages, but I picked up some tricks with normal maps along the way, so it was worth it. I might use this method more often (the RMQ tiles have fitting trim textures to go with them, those might be the next target).
And here’s one with working specular. Grr. You can see how greyish textures strongly react to coloured lighting – same texture, different colour, all from the lighting.
