Update: Fixed texture problem with ASE model and tinkered around with smoothing groups. Blender ASE exporter is a bit temperamental and sometimes doesn’t like certain polygons for no apparent reason. 970 tris. I’ve got an .OBJ version too, which is correctly textured with multiple materials just like the ASE version, but I don’t have smoothing groups working on that. Yet. With ASE, apparently you really have to split edges to define smoothing groups, not just mark them as sharp.
